Where can I play padel in Valencia? This is a question I get asked all the time and the answer isn’t so simple. Finding somewhere can be a little bit challenging and if you are trying to book a padel court at the last minute (especially at the weekend), it can seem close to impossible especially when faced with a receptionist who doesn’t speak a word of English or a booking system that makes no sense. It’s located about 15 mins by car, 30 mins by bike, 45 mins by public transport out of the city. 7 Padel is best if you already know your level and want to play against local people, but it is possible to book an entire court for your group if required. Hopefully by the time you read this, it will be back open again. This place has an incredible 30 padel courts (both indoors and outdoors) and is the best option if you want to experience how popular padel is in Valencia. It’s also located about 15 mins by car, 30 mins by bike and 45 mins by public transport from the city. There are 5 outdoor padel courts there and it is relatively cheap to rent a court. For that reason, the courts tend to go quickly and it may be difficult to find a time especially at the weekend. Although it is mainly aimed at locals with memberships, it is possible to book padel courts directly with them. There are 4 outdoor padel courts here and you can easily walk over if you are staying in Russafa. My friends and I sometimes joke that it would be easier to hack into the system than use it as intended. 5 Reasons to Try Padel in Valencia
Why should you play padel in Valencia? 1) Burn some calories while having fun Spain is famous for its food and it would be a crime not to enjoy paella, tapas and all of the other delicious cuisine that is available. Luckily, you can burn loads of calories while playing padel! Even though it’s a relatively low intensity, it’s a full body workout and you’ll forget that you are exercising while sprinting towards a drop shot or scrambling to win a crucial point. 2) Play Padel Outdoors If you come from a country in Northern Europe, your only realistic choice will be to play padel indoors. Valencia has some amazing outdoor courts, so you’ll be able to work on your tan at the same time as enjoying the sport. With 300 sunny days per year, you’d be pretty unlucky to be here on a rainy day, but don’t worry because there are great indoor courts too. 3) Meet New Friends in Valencia Padel is an amazing sport and I’ve found that it is one of the best ways to make new friends. Generally, you’ll be playing doubles, so you’ll be meeting 3 other people. Unlike some other sports, the ranking system allows you to easily find games of the right level (even with strangers) and always remember to go for a drink after the game to talk about the best and worst shots from the game that you’ve just played. 4) Gain Confidence One of the great things about trying padel is that it’s pretty easy to pick up. It’s pretty likely that you’ll improve a lot in your first match and when you hit your first unreturnable serve, hit a winning volley or smash, you’ll feel incredible! 5) Learn Spanish in Valencia while Playing Padel Padel actually began in Mexico, so it’s one of the few sports that uses Spanish to name the different shots that are used in the game. After a few games, you’ll be using words like bandeja (tray), vibora (viper) and bajada (descent) to describe your shots even if you have almost no Spanish. 5 Local Experiences in Valencia 2024
The fact that you’re reading this article means that you’re already thinking about going to Valencia or maybe you’ve just landed here and have no idea what to do. It was almost impossible to choose only 5 local experiences that I’d recommend doing in Valencia, but here’s the final list and make sure you read to the end because number 5 is really special. 1) Visit the City of Arts and Sciences and The Turia (el rio) If you only have one day in Valencia, you should make sure that you go to the City of Arts and Sciences. Even though the majority of buildings there were designed in the late nineties and noughties, they still look incredibly futuristic. This plan is obviously quite touristy, but after visiting the City of Arts and Sciences, you’ll already be next to the Turia which is known locally as ‘the rio’. This former river has been turned into a 9km park and you’ll see locals walking their dogs, running, having picnics and just living their daily lives. 2) Drink Agua de Valencia This drink sounds very innocent when you translate it into English (Valencian water) and it basically looks like orange juice. Don’t be fooled because this cocktail is made up of cava, vodka, gin and orange juice, so you’ll be feeling the effects after a glass or two. It’s normally served in a pitcher and I’d recommend Cafe de Las Horas as one of the best local places to try it out. 3) Play Padel Padel is the fastest growing sport in the world but there’s no doubt that Spain is the European country where it is the most popular. Unlike other major cities like Madrid and Barcelona, you can find lots of padel courts in Valencia and you’ll find that people of all ages love to play it. Padel Experience Valencia 4) Eat Paella Whenever I have friends and family visiting, the local experience that they are always keen to try is eating traditional Valencian paella. Here are a few local tips to make sure you get the best experience and don’t hesitate to contact me if you want specific restaurant recommendations :) 1) Paella is a lunchtime dish and local people will never go out to eat it for dinner. If the restaurant serves paella for dinner, it’s likely to be aimed at tourists.2) Valencian paella contains chicken, rabbit, sometimes snails, flat green beans, garrofó [white] beans, garlic, paprika, saffron and tomato. (Ricard Camarena)”3) If you don’t have have much time or are travelling alone, then you can consider comidas para llevar (food to take away) and you can buy an individual portion of paella for around 4 Euros. 5) Fallas Festival (March 1-19 2025) The most local Valencian experience that you could ever hope for. The city completely changes at the beginning of March and there are is a never-ending explosion of noise. This is the experience that many Valencians look forward to all year (some of them hate it) and if you are looking for an incredible cultural event, then you should definitely come to Valencia in March.
